Poetry: Even Our Dear Moon Wears a Mask by Maddi Maddox

Even our dear moon wears a mask
Because a blanket of stars cannot begin to hide
all of the utter fear and pain that lies inside
Loneliness builds up, and it is a tedious task...
to be the moon.

Even our dear moon wears a mask
And to love someone with a fake smile
is to run and transcend that extra mile
The emotional distance grows vast, it is a tedious task...
to love the moon.

Even our dear moon wears a mask
When mirrors show so much to despise,
we need proof for society to see we're worth the next sunrise
The insecurities grow, it is a tedious task...
to be the moon.

Even our dear moon wears a mask
In a world so colorful and bright
It may seem so dull and trite
Even for the beloved, it is a tedious task...
to love the moon.

Even our dear moon wears a mask
It watches as people fade in, fade past
People have visited, in a world built to last
No one has stayed. for people, it is a tedious task
to be the moon.
